The University of Cincinnati baseball team will conclude its regular season with a three-game series against BIG EAST regular-season champion University of Connecticut Thursday through Saturday at Marge Schott Stadium. Thursday's series opener is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. ET first pitch and will feature sophomore left-handed pitcher Thomas Gentile, who will be making his eighth start of the season. Senior right-hander Nick Johnson will take the mound in the second game of the series, which will be at 6:30 p.m. ET Friday. The season finale at 1 p.m. ET Saturday will include Senior Day festivities. The probable starter for Saturday is TBA. SERIES INFORMATION
-Since 2006, the Bearcats and Pirates have played 14 games.
-Cincinnati owns a 6-8 record in the all-time series.
-Last season, UConn won 2 of 3 against the Bearcats from May 8-9 in Storrs, Conn.
-UConn swept a May 8 doubleheader, with scores of 14-2 and 14-0 before the Bearcats won the series finale 3-2 in 11 innings.
-The Huskies also defeated UC 9-6 in the opening round of the 2010 BIG EAST Championship on May 26.
CLEARY SURPASSES SAMPLE ON ALL-TIME WINS LIST
-UC's 7-3 win over Seton Hall on Sunday, May 15, marked career win No. 392 for head coach Brian Cleary, moving him atop the all-time ledger for the Bearcats as the winningest coach in the program's storied 124-year history.
-Glenn Sample, who was the head coach from 1961- 1981, previously held the all-time record with a 391- 349 (.528) ledger.
BIDDING FAREWELL TO 7 SENIORS
-Cincinnati will say goodbye to its seven seniors before Saturday's 1 p.m. regular-season finale against UConn.
-RHP Dan Glozer, RHP Dan Jensen, RHP Nick Johnson, SS Chris Peters, OF Justin Riddell, C Nick Rohlfs and RHP Brian Sand will be honored during pregame ceremonies before they play their final game at Marge Schott Stadium.
SCOUTING UConn
-UConn, which clinched the 2011 BIG EAST regular season championship, sits at 37-14-1 overall and 20-4 in conference play.
-Since losing back-to-back games April 10 and 12 to Notre Dame and Yale, the Huskies have won 19 of their last 21 contests.
-The Huskies lead the BIG EAST in conference games in batting (.321), slugging percentage (.435), RBI (136), ERA (2.09), strikeouts (176) and opponent batting average (.196).
-Junior right-hander Matt Barnes won his 10th game of the year, defeating Louisville 6-2 on Friday. Barnes is first in the BIG EAST in ERA (1.27), wins (10) and strikeouts (91).
