CINCINNATI - University of Cincinnati designated hitter Justin Glass (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) was named to the 2011 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America Team, Collegiate Baseball newspaper announced Wednesday.
Glass, an All-BIG EAST Second Team selection, started all 57 games at DH for Cincinnati in 2011. The Fort Wayne, Ind. native ended the season with a .326 batting average, good for second on the team. He also added four home runs, 45 RBI and nine stolen bases.
At the beginning of the season, Glass was named to the BIG EAST/Big Ten Challenge All-Tournament team on Feb. 21 after batting .545 (6-for-11), with three RBI, three runs scored and two walks during his first three collegiate games.
Glass is the second Bearcat to earn Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America honors in as many years. Sophomore right-handed pitcher Andrew Strenge (Yardley, Pa./Holy Ghost Prep) received the accolade following the 2010 season.
