CINCINNATI - University of Cincinnati junior volleyball player Becca Refenes (Westland, Mich./Lutheran Westland) has been selected to compete in the 7th Annual European Global Challenge in Pula, Croatia from July 17-22.
The event, sponsored by Bring It Promotions, will feature teams from Europe and the United States. Teams will arrive and participate in opening ceremonies July 17, with competition beginning July 18 and lasting through July 21. Closing ceremonies will be held July 22 and the teams will depart from Pula shortly thereafter.
"This experience will be great for Becca and will give her the chance to expand on her overall volleyball development," said head volleyball coach Reed Sunahara.
The two-year Bearcat starter will have the opportunity to learn from the best, as she will compete with other talented American collegiate players and against top European talent.
Refenes enters the challenge after a successful sophomore season, in which she led the team in blocks per set (1.18) and was named the team's most improved player at the annual postseason banquet. She will be relied on by Sunahara to provide some veteran leadership as the Bearcats attempt to repeat last year's 30-win, BIG EAST Championship season and return to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth consecutive year.
