CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati women's soccer team added Scott Gloden to its coaching staff as a volunteer assistant, head coach Michelle Salmon announced Monday.
Gloden's arrival comes just in time for the start of the 2011 season as the Bearcats open fall training camp on Tuesday.
"Scott Gloden is a great addition to our coaching staff and we're excited to have him join the UC program," said Salmon. "Scott's an experienced coach who will help our team get to where we want to go - which is to win the BIG EAST Championship."
Gloden previously spent the past four seasons as an assistant coach at Bowling Green State University, where he developed six All-Mid American Conference selections and eight MAC Player of the Week honorees.
In Gloden's first two seasons at BGSU, the Falcons advanced to the final of the MAC Championship in 2007 and the semifinals in 2008. After recording a 12-6-4 overall record, the '08 BGSU team set a school record for fewest losses in a season, and finished second in BGSU history with .636 winning percentage.
Gloden, who supervised academic standards for the Falcons, mentored six ESPN Academic All-District recipients, five Academic All-MAC selections and saw the team's overall grade point average increase from 3.1 to 3.5.
"I'm looking forward for the opportunity to work with Coach Salmon and the rest of UC women's soccer program," Gloden said. "We've got such a great staff and a talented team; I just want to do my part to help Cincinnati win the BIG EAST."
Prior to his tenure at Bowling Green, Gloden spent three seasons as an assistant women's soccer coach at Saint Francis (Pa.) University. Under Gloden's tutelage, the Red Flash posted a combined record of 25-25-7, including a mark of 13-8-6 in Northeast Conference play. In 2005, SFU went 11-7-3 overall to set a school record for wins in a season.
Gloden began his collegiate coaching career as assistant coach for both the men's and women's teams at Saint Joseph's (Ind.) College for three seasons (2001-03) before heading to Saint Francis.
After receiving a bachelor's degree in general studies from the University of Michigan in 1998, Gloden earned his master's degree in sports administration from Wayne State in 2001.
While working toward his undergraduate degree at Michigan, Gloden was a member of the UM club soccer team from 1994-96, and helped lead the Wolverines to the 1996 club national championship.
Additionally, Gloden serves as a staff coach with the Ohio North Olympic Development program and currently holds a United States Soccer Federation National "A" license, which he earned in 2011.
