Sept. 11, 2011

Box Score

CINCINNATI - Freshman Cole DeNormandie (Lincoln, Mass/Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) and junior Leon Powell (Kingston, Jamaica/Excelsior/Meridian C.C.) each had their first career multi-goal games as the University of Cincinnati men's soccer team cruised past IUPUI, 4-1, on Sunday afternoon at Gettler Stadium.

DeNormandie opened up the scoring for the Bearcats (3-2-0) after he received a pass from junior Zach Patterson (Mason, Ohio/Mason) from the right corner of the box in the 16th minute. Despite outshooting the Jaguars, 6-1, in the first period, the score remained 1-0 at the half.

IUPUI's Kyle Hyland knotted the game in the 54th minute on a free kick. After numerous shot opportunities for the Bearcats, DeNormandie was finally able to find the back of the net a second time after receiving a cross from sophomore Michael Millay (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips).

The momentum continued to swing in UC's direction, as Powell pitched in his first of the afternoon less than five minutes later on a wide-open goal. His second came from a Shamar Shelton (Kingston, Jamaica/St. George's/Lindsey Wilson) free kick, which all but sealed the victory for the Bearcats.

Cincinnati will host another set of contests next weekend, when it takes on Missouri State on Friday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m., followed by a 1 p.m. matchup against Oakland on Sunday, Sept. 18.
