SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. - The University of Cincinnati women's golf team finished 12th at the season-opening Wild Eggs Cardinal Cup at the Cardinal Club Golf Course on Tuesday.
The event, which was scheduled to go 54 holes, was shortened to 36 holes due to inclement weather on Monday.
The Bearcats posted a two-round team score of 320-304=624 to finish eight shots ahead of 13th-place Xavier (320-312=632). North Carolina State won the team title with rounds of 296-300=596, two shots clear of East Carolina (300-298=598).
Junior Maria Roos, a transfer from Mississippi State, posted the low score for the Bearcats with rounds of 75-76=151. She finished tied for 12th while playing unattached.
Junior Alex Carl shot 79-73=152 to finish in a tie for 17th, while sophomore Olivia Dose was three shots behind at 79-76=155, placing 36th.
Freshman Mackenzie Moir was solid in her collegiate debut, firing rounds of 81-79=160 to finish in a tie for 57th.
East Carolina's Julia Strandberg (75-70=145) won medalist honors by one shot over Amanda Baker of NC State (72-74=146) and AnnaKarin Ljungstrom of host Louisville (72-74=146).
The Bearcats return to action on Oct. 1-2 at the Penn State Nittany Lion Invitational in State College, Pa.
