CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati men's golf team takes part in its second fall tournament when it competes at the Cardinal Intercollegiate, Sept 26-27, at the Cardinal Club Golf Course in Simpsonville, Ky.
The two-day, 54-hole tournament tees off with 36 holes on Monday followed by 18 holes on Tuesday. Opening-round play begins with a shot-gun start at 8:30 a.m. ET. Eighteen teams will vie for the championship at the par 72, 7,036-yard course.
The Bearcats are coming off a 14th-place finish at the Marshall Invitational on Sept. 13. Junior David Tepe (Liberty Township, Ohio/Lakota East) led all UC players, firing a career-best 1-over par 71-73-70=214 to finish tied for 25th.
"I am very excited to watch this team compete," UC head coach Doug Martin said. "We have had a very productive 10 days since last playing at Marshall. David continues to shine this fall, he is working very hard and trying to find the consistency we need at the No. 1 spot. We have spent much of the past week or so trying to strengthen our putting and chipping. This team has been very willing to work and identify its weaknesses and challenge themselves to improve."
Other Bearcats competing at the Louisville event will be freshman Jared Howard (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) - who finished second in qualifying during the week - as well as junior Andrew Desmarais (Union, Ky./Ryle), sophomore Spencer Mellon (Oakmont, Pa./Central Catholic), senior Kurt Harris (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) and junior Zack Bates (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston).
UC opened its 2010 fall campaign last season at the Cardinal Intercollegiate with a 15th-place finish after posting a 305-300-297=902.
