Oxford, Ohio - The University of Cincinnati tennis team finished the Miami Invitational Tournament Saturday afternoon with six wins as a team.

The tournament lasted until Sunday, but some teams including the Bearcats, were finished by Saturday. On day one, the four representatives from Cincinnati went 2-2 as a team. The next and final day was doubles only. The two teams from Cincinnati won four out of the total of six matches played that afternoon.

All of the Bearcats faced off against cross-town rivals Xavier on the first day of play. Sophomore Ashleigh Witte (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) lost her first match Friday to Pleiman of Xavier 6-1, 3-6, 6-1. Junior Jasmine Lee (Canton, Ohio/Glen Oak HS) posted a win on Friday for the Bearcats by defeating Patton from Xavier in straight sets 6-1, 6-3. Sophomore transfer Sierra Sullivan (Austin, Texas/Stetson University) also recorded a win in straight sets against a Xavier Musketeer by beating Alkire 7-5, 6-3. Senior Safiyya Ismail (Maineville, Ohio/Kings HS) lost to Westling of Xavier 6-3, 1-6, 6-3. In doubles play, each team only had one match.

The duo of Ismail and Lee lost to Guerrazzi/Raymond of Miami 8-3. Sullivan/Witte defeated Costea/Thurman, also of Miami, 8-6 on the first day. The final day for the Bearcats proved to be the most successful as the team went 3-1 on the day. Ismail/Lee lost to Gerritsen/Albuquerque of Eastern Kentucky 6-3 but then turned around to defeat Alkire/Pleiman of XU 8-6. Sullivan/Witte continued their winning streak from the first day of play by overcoming EKU's Faouzi/Poffo 6-2 and Westling/Patton of XU 8-6.

The Bearcats will be in action October 14-19 when they travel south to Memphis, Tennessee for the ITA Regionals.
