SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. - University of Cincinnati junior David Tepe (Liberty Township, Ohio/Lakota East) fired a 1-under par 71 to tie for 12th place in first-round action Monday at the Cardinal Intercollegiate at the Cardinal Club Golf Course.
Rainy weather conditions shortened first-day play from 36 to 18 holes. The final 18 holes of the tournament will begin with a shotgun start Tuesday at 8:15 a.m. ET.
Tepe is four shots behind tournament leaders Nicklaus Benton of Arkansas-Little Rock and Brian Fister of Eastern Kentucky who both carded a 5-under 67.
The Bearcats finished the first round in 16th place after posting a 303 team score. Arkansas-Little Rock leads the 18-team field after registering a 5-under 283.
UC freshman Jared Howard (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) carded a 3-over 75 to tie for 44th place. Junior Andrew Desmarais (Union, Ky./Ryle) recorded a 78 to tie for 71st place. Sophomore Spencer Mellon (Oakmont, Pa./Central Catholic) is tied for 75th position at 79. Senior Kurt Harris (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) is tied for 90th at 81.
