UND/DePaul Weekend Match Notes

CINCINNATI-Coming off two straight-set wins in conference, the University of Cincinnati volleyball team will travel to Indiana and Illinois this weekend to continue BIG EAST play against Notre Dame and DePaul.

The Bearcats are led by lone senior Missy Harpenau and her 3.52 kills per set. She is assisted by freshman setter Caylin Mahoney, who averages 10.45 helpers per set. Sophomore libero Emily MacIntyre continues to be a presence in the back row, leading the team with 3.64 digs per set. Junior Becca Refenes leads the team and the net defense with 1.02 blocks per set.

On Saturday, October 1, the Bearcats will face Notre Dame at 2 p.m. The Fighting Irish of Notre Dame were picked to finish second in the BIG EAST, one place higher than Cincinnati's preseason ranking of third. As of now, Notre Dame is 1-1 in conference play. They are led by reigning 2010 BIG EAST Freshman of the Year Andrea McHugh who has recorded 3.14 kills per set so far this season. Maggie Brindock sets up the Irish attack with 9.03 assists per set. In the back row, Frenchy Silva leads the team in 4.18 digs per set.

After the Notre Dame match, the team will get on the bus and head to Chicago to take on the Demons of DePaul the next day. The game will be at 2 p.m. CT on Sunday, October 2 on the campus of DePaul. The Demons are led on the year by Amy Lanski's 3.15 kills per set. The Demons have been running an offense led by two setters: Samantha Geiger (6.60 assists per set) and Katie Gamsky (4.06 assists per set). Kelsey Bowler is in charge of the back row with 4.06 digs per set.
