CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati men's soccer team shut out Central Arkansas, 3-0, in its home opener on Friday evening at Gettler Stadium.
After numerous shot opportunities, the Bearcats (2-2) finally got on the board after Cole DeNormandie (Lincoln, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) scored on a Ashani Walker (Kingston, Jamaica/Jamaica College) corner kick in the 27th minute to give the Bearcats the 1-0 lead at the half.
UC added to its lead in a similar fashion in the 82nd minute when Matt Remaley (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista) set up a header for D.J. Albert (Park City, Ill./College of Lake County) after a Shamar Shelton (Kingston, Jamaica/St. George's/Lindsey Wilson) corner.
It didn't take long for the Bearcats to extend their lead even further, as Remaley found the back of the net two and a half minutes later after Will Diebold (Coppell, Texas/Jesuit College Prep) fired from the corner of the box - effectively sealing the victory, 3-0.
The Bearcats nearly doubled UCA on shots, 22-12, while junior Joey Barnard finished with eight saves.
Cincinnati will return to Gettler Stadium to host IUPUI on Sunday, Sept. 11 at 4 p.m.
