CINCINNATI- The University of Cincinnati men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to No. 25 West Virginia in the Bearcats' BIG EAST home opener on Saturday night at Gettler Stadium.

West Virginia (5-4-1, 1-1-0 BIG EAST) tallied midway through the first half on Andy Bevin's sixth goal of the campaign after an Allan Flott cross. The Bearcats (3-6-1, 0-2-0) saw a good chance go high moments before the WVU goal on a left-footed drive by Emmanuel Appiah (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville Central)from just outside the 18.

The Mountaineers maintained the 1-0 lead into the half and spent the majority of the second half holding possession, making offensive attacking difficult for the home squad.

WVU nearly made it 2-0 in the 74th minute when a shot by Nick Claudio was initially saved by Bearcats keeper Joey Barnard (McKinney, Texas/McKinney). The rebound was corralled by Ruben Garrido but his attempt went wide right.

Barnard finished with three saves on the night.

UC had one final chance in the waning moments after earning a throw-in deep in West Virginia territory. Sam Klosterman (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) put the throw into the box, where it was settled and put on net by D.J. Albert (Park City, Ill./College of Lake County), but it slid just wide left.

Cincinnati is winless in its last five matches and has scored just two goals during that stretch.

UC will look to get back on track when Southern Illinois-Edwardsville visits Gettler Stadium on Tuesday, Oct. 4, for a 7 p.m. kick, in the final non-conference match of the season.
