CINCINNATI - Entering its third tournament of the fall season, the University of Cincinnati men's golf team competes at the Cobra-Puma Invitational on Oct. 2-3 at the Miromar Lakes Golf Club in Miromar Lakes, Fla.

The two-day, 54-hole tournament is hosted by Xavier University. The 12-team field also includes Ball State, Bethune Cookman, Dayton, Eastern Kentucky, Florida Atlantic, Florida Gulf Coast, Georgetown, Loyola of Maryland, St. Joseph's and Western Kentucky. Sunday features 36 holes of play beginning with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. ET. The final round begins Monday with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. ET.

UC junior David Tepe (Liberty Township, Ohio/Lakota East) leads five Bearcats participating in the event along with freshman Jared Howard (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome), sophomore Spencer Mellon (Oakmont, Pa./Central Catholic), junior Zach Bates (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston) and freshman Mike Irwin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller).

"It's very important that we drive the ball well this week," UC head coach Doug Martin said. "Miromar Lakes is a very good and demanding golf course. The fairways are generous, but being able to place the ball on the right side of fairway is important in making approach shots easier. We also must continue to eliminate some of our unforced errors each day. When we eliminate these mistakes, we will have a chance to be a good team."

Tepe has finished first on the squad in both tournaments this fall, including a tie for 15th place with 1-over par 145 in the rain-shortened Cardinal Invitational on Sept. 27. He also carded a career-best 1-over par 214 to tie for 25th place at the Marshall Invitational on Sept. 13. He leads all Bearcats with a 71.80 stroke average.
