Match Notes-Cincinnati vs Western Kentucky
The Cincinnati Bearcat volleyball team will host the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers of the Sun Belt Conference Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Fifth Third Arena.
Coming off a tough loss to the Cardinals of Louisville, the Bearcats will look to start a winning streak going into the final stretch of the BIG EAST. The Bearcats now sit at third place behind undefeated Louisville and Marquette. They also will look to continue a streak. At home, the team has 42 wins which is the longest current winning streak in the nation. The Bearcats are led this season by senior Missy Harpenau, who posts 3.55 kills per set. Freshman Caylin Mahoney leads the team with 10.67 assists per set, good for a third place ranking in the conference. In only her second year in the libero position, Emily Macintyre continues to be a solid passer and defender with 3.59 digs per set. Junior Becca Refenes leads the team at the net with 1.12 blocks per set and fellow junior Emily Hayden will look to continue her consistency as she leads the team with a .284 hitting percentage mark.
Western Kentucky sits at the top of the Sun Belt Conference. This team will look for revenge from the Bearcats because last year, they lost twice to Cincinnati including the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Hilltoppers are led by junior Jordyn Skinner who averages 3.82 kills per set. Skinner was recently named the AVCA Player of the Week. 2010 South Region Freshman of the Year Melanie Stutsman returns in her sophomore year to set as she leads the team with 10.75 assists per set. Ashley Potts leads the defense with 4.57 digs per set.
The match will be a Cystic Fibrosis Awareness opportunity as people who suffer with the disease will be present and available to answer questions and speak in between games two and three.
