WASHINGTON -The University of Cincinnati volleyball team defeated the Georgetown University Hoyas Friday afternoon 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-22) to start the last regular season BIG EAST weekend.

The team was led on the afternoon by junior Jordanne Scott (Indianapolis, Ind. /Lawrence North). She recorded 19 kills with only one error for a .600 percentage.

Senior Missy Harpenau (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) put down 10 kills, a .261 percentage and a match-high 13 digs. Freshman Caylin Mahoney (Fort Worth, Texas/Keller Central) led the match with 35 assists.

Sophomore Emily MacIntyre (Muncie, Ind. /Yorktown) recorded 10 digs in the win. At the net, junior Emily Hayden (Louisville, Ky. /Assumption) led the defensive effort with six block assists. She also put down four kills. Junior Becca Refenes (Westland, Mich. /Lutheran Westland) did not commit a hitting error the entire match, putting down five kills on a .500 percentage.

Scott started the third set off right with a solo block for a Bearcat lead 6-5. The Hoyas got their largest lead of the match so far when they went ahead 13-10. Harpenau added two kills, but the Hoyas still found themselves on top 21-19. The momentum switched in favor of the Bearcats after kills from Scott 22-21. The set and match ended with a 25-22 win for the Bearcats.

After a quick 4-0 lead in the second set for the Bearcats, the Hoyas decreased the lead 14-8. Thanks to kills from Scott and a Harpenau ace, the Bearcats continued the run 17-9. Hayden then added a kill, teamed up with Mahoney for a block and junior Megan Turner (Ontario, N.Y. /Wayne Central) added an ace to build the lead 23-16. Cincinnati got the second set win 25-17. The offense did well in the second set, hitting .394 thanks to 16 assists by Mahoney.

The match started with blocks from Hayden and kills from Harpenau and Scott for a close Bearcat lead 11-10. Scott then added an ace to add to the lead 16-12. Additional kills from Scott and Refenes and digs from MacIntyre and Harpenau got the score to 23-17. The set ended with a Refenes overpass kill 25-18. Scott and Refenes led the way in the first set with hitting percentages of .800 and .500, respectively. Hayden recorded 3 block assists, accounting for 1.5 of the team's 3 in the set.

The Bearcats will travel to Philadelphia tonight to face Villanova Sunday, November 13 at 2:00 p.m. This will be the last regular season BIG EAST match of the 2011 season and the final test for the team before the conference championship tournament next week.
