MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Haywood Miller and Helena Pikhartova recorded standout performances to lead the University of Cincinnati swimming and diving teams against West Virginia University and Villanova University Saturday afternoon at WVU Natatorium.
Miller (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase/Maryland) produced a team-high three individual first-place finishes. The senior recorded wins in the both the 200-yard breaststroke and the 100-yard breaststroke with marks of 2 minutes, 9.09 seconds and 59.35 seconds, respectively.
Miller completed the hat trick of wins after placing first in the 400-yard individual medley with a recorded time of 4:12.51.
Pikhartova (Prague, Czech Republic/Gymnazium Jana Nerudy) also swept both the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke races. The freshman, who already owns the second best all-time UC mark in the 100 breaststroke, finished the 100 breast in 1:03.87 and the 200 breast in 2:21.04.
Pikhartova has won all three 100-yard breaststroke events that she has competed in this season.
Following Pikhartova in the 200-yard breaststroke was senior Josefin Wede (Landskrona, Sweden/Gripenskolan/Auburn), who placed second with a mark of 2:21.59.
Senior Liz Hansson (Lund, Sweden/School of St. Petri) added another first-place showing for the UC woman after she emerged victorious in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.13 seconds.
The Bearcat men added a fourth individual win in the 100-yard butterfly after junior Roberto Nevarez (Chihuahua, Mexico/ITESM Chihuahua) arose victorious with a mark of 51.76 seconds.
Cincinnati will next compete at the Pittsburgh Invitational, Nov. 18-20, in western Pennsylvania.
