CINCINNATI - Head coach Reed Sunahara and the 2011 BIG EAST Champion University of Cincinnati volleyball team has announced the signing of Mackenzie Kitchel for the 2012 season.

Kitchel, a 6'0" outside hitter has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Bearcats next fall. The Greenwood, Ind. native goes to Center Grove High School and plays Junior Olympic volleyball for Team Indiana. The team finished third at the AAU National Championship in 2009, where she was named an AAU All-American.

At Center Grove, the four-year varsity letterwinner received many accolades for her efforts. Her senior year, she was named an Indiana Coaches of Girls' Sports Association (ICGSA) Senior All-Star and was ICGSA First Team All-State. Junior year, Kitchel received South Player of the Year, Johnson County Player of the Year, ICGSA First Team All-State and an ICGSA Junior All-Star.

Kitchel was also a member of the Varsity Track team in 2009 and 2010 in the high jumping event. At both years' state meets, she placed third in the High Jump. She was named second-team All-State in 2009 for Track. She has also been a Varsity cheerleader at Center Grove since 2009.

Kitchel is the daughter of Ted and Kristi Kitchel. Ted was a basketball player at Indiana University and Kristi was a member of the diving team at UNLV.

The Bearcats return home for their final regular season matches against Ohio and Miami (OH) Friday and Saturday at 3:00 and 4:00 p.m. respectively.
