TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The University of Cincinnati volleyball team will face the Bulldogs of Samford University Friday December 2 at Tully Gymnasium on the campus of Florida State University in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
The 2011 BIG EAST Champion Bearcats are led on the season by junior Jordanne Scott (Indianapolis, Ind. /Lawrence North). The 2011 Unanimous First-Team BIG EAST selection averages a team-high 3.48 kills per set and a .321 hitting percentage. For her efforts, the right side hitter was named COBRA Magazine Midwest Player of the Year.
Senior Missy Harpenau (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) makes her fourth straight appearance in the NCAA tournament this weekend. She leads the team in aces with 46 and is second on the team in kills and digs per set with 3.42 and 2.90 respectively.
Sophomore Emily MacIntyre (Muncie, Ind. /Yorktown) leads the defense for her second year as the starting libero. She averages 4.02 digs per set and has 502 total digs. MacIntyre has broken her previous career-high in digs and aces several times this season.
At the net, junior Becca Refenes (Westland, Mich. /Lutheran Westland) leads the defensive efforts. The middle blocker averages a team-high 1.13 blocks per set, totaling 143 on the year.
The Bulldogs of Samford are coming off a Southern Conference championship. The team is led by junior Lauren Hutchinson, who averages 3.27 kills and 0.98 blocks per set. Fellow junior Casey Garvey sets up the Bulldog offense with 12.13 assists per set.
