PITTSBURGH - The University of Cincinnati women's basketball team dropped a 79-48 decision at Pittsburgh on Tuesday (Feb. 1) in the Petersen Events Center.
Bjonee Reaves (San Bernardino, Calif./Neosho County) matched her career high with 22 points in her first career start for the Bearcats (8-13 overall, 1-8 BIG EAST). Reaves shot 6-of-16 from the floor, 3-of-9 from three-point range, and 7-of-8 from the free throw line.
Shareese Ulis (Toledo, Ohio/Trinity Valley C.C.) had seven points but hit a three-pointer in her 23rd straight game.
Jania Sims had 24 points for the Panthers (10-11, 2-6), while Chelsea Cole posted a double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds.
The Panthers led 37-19 at the half and led 32-9 before a 10-5 run for the Bearcats to close out the stanza. UC shot just 7-of-24 from the floor and missed its first six shots, while turning the ball over eight times in the frame.
Reaves scored 12 points in the first half, knocking down 4-of-8 from the floor and 2-of-4 from three.
The Panthers pushed the lead to as much as 38 in the second half, shooting 47 percent in the stanza.
Pittsburgh outrebounded the Bearcats, 39-32, led by Cole's 14. Tiffany Turner (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) grabbed eight boards to lead UC's efforts on the glass.
The Bearcats will wrap up a two-game road swing with a trip to Washington, D.C., where they will take on No. 17/19 Georgetown on Feb. 5 at 3 p.m. in McDonough Arena.
