WASHINGTON - Tiffany Turner (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) scored a career-high 12 points but the University of Cincinnati women's basketball team dropped a 55-38 decision at No. 17/19 Georgetown on Saturday (Feb. 5) in McDonough Arena.
Ture freshman Turner was 6-of-8 from the floor, surpassing her career high of 10 points, which she hit on four occasions this season.
Bjonee Reaves (San Bernardino, Calif./Neosho County), making her second career start, scored eight points with four boards and two assists.
After falling behind, 13-6, in the first six minutes of the half, the Bearcats scored four straight points to cut the lead to 13-10. Georgetown answered with a 9-2 spurt to regain a 10-point cushion at 22-12 with 8:49 left in the half.
UC closed the stanza on an 8-3 run to go to the locker room trailing 27-22. Turner led the charge for the Bearcats, scoring eight first-half points.
Shelly Bellman (Ottawa, Ohio/Ottawa-Glandorf) nailed a three-pointer to start the second half scoring and pulled the Bearcats to within a pair, 27-25.
The Hoyas again pushed the lead to as much as nine, but Cincinnati responded again to cut the lead to three, 38-35, with 7:05 to go on a LaShay Banks (Philadelphia, Pa./Prep Charter) jumper from the right wing.
That was as close as UC would get, as the Hoyas closed the game with a 17-3 run.
Rubylee Wright led all scorers with 14 points and added eight assists. The Bearcats held the BIG EAST's second-leading scorer, Sugar Rodgers, to nine points on 3-of-12 shooting, and held the Hoyas to 33 percent shooting as a team.
The Bearcats will have a week off to prepare for Seton Hall on Feb. 12 at 2 p.m. in Fifth Third Arena.
