CINCINNATI - University of Cincinnati women's soccer head coach Michelle Salmon announced the 2012 spring schedule on Monday.
"We look forward to the spring and the challenging schedule that's been set," said Salmon. "With the bulk of our players returning from last year, it's a great opportunity for us to challenge and develop them. We're taking the spring season as a chance to experiment with some new systems of play, as well as a chance to clean up our offensive finishing and defensive shapes."
The spring practice schedule opens on March 10 when the Bearcats travel to Knoxville, Tenn. to play the Tennessee Volunteers, a 2011 NCAA Championship participant. Last season, Cincinnati defeated Tennessee 1-0 in a spring match at Gettler Stadium on April 3, 2011.
Following the road trip to Tennessee, UC will play five home matches at Gettler Stadium, beginning with an April 14 title vs. Northern Kentucky and ending with an Alumni match on April 28.
In between the NKU and alumni matches are home games vs. Dayton (April 18), Marshall (April 21) and Ohio (April 27).
The Bearcats are coming off a 6-8-4 season that saw the development of five freshmen starters, including forward Mackenzie Grause (Ft. Thomas, Ky./Highlands), who was named a Top Drawer Soccer top-100 freshman, and goalkeeper Kristina Utley (Castro Valley, Calif./Castro Valley), who twice was named the BIG EAST Conference Goalkeeper of the Week in 2011.
