CINCINNATI - Three members of the University of Cincinnati baseball team were named to the FOX Sports Ohio Preseason Division I All-Buckeye State Baseball Team on Jan. 23.
Sophomore OF/DH Justin Glass (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) was named a first-team selection as a designated hitter, while senior OF/C Braden Kline (Warsaw, Ind./Warsaw Community) and junior outfielder Jake Proctor (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) were announced as second-team choices.
Last season, Glass batted .326 with four home runs and 45 RBI in 57 games on his way to being named a second-team All-BIG EAST Conference honoree, as well as a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American. Additionally, the 6-foot-2 left-handed slugger was named to the 2011 BIG EAST/Big Ten Challenge All-Tournament Team and was the MVP of '11 Joe Nuxhall Classic during his freshman campaign.
Kline hit .326 with five home runs and 31 RBI after moving from catcher to the outfield last year, and was named a third-team all-conference choice. The 6-foot-1 power hitter finished the season in the BIG EAST top 10 in home runs (5 - T6th) and hitting (.356 - ninth) during league play. In addition, Kline began 2011 with a 16-game hitting streak that started during the 2010 season finale, which ranked fourth best in the conference, and later recorded a 15-game hit streak from April 16 through May 11.
After starting 56 of 57 games in the outfield in 2011, Proctor ended the season with a .286 batting average with a team-best 51 runs scored, 30 RBI and three home runs. In 23 attempts, the 6-foot-2 speedster led the Bearcats with 21 stolen bases, which were just three shy of cracking the UC all-time single-season top 10.
Glass and Kline each now have two preseason honors to their names after both were named 2012 Preseason All-BIG EAST selections by College Sports Madness in early January.
The Bearcats open their season Friday at 1 p.m. against Purdue at the BIG EAST/Big Ten Challenge in Clearwater, Fla.
