WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Justin Glass was 5-for-5 and Christian McElroy earned his first career win as the University of Cincinnati baseball team earned its first win of a season with a 13-0 drubbing of UMBC in the finale of the Wake Forest Invitational on Sunday afternoon.

The Bearcats (1-5) scored early and often and got five shutout innings from McElroy, who faced just two over the minimum. He allowed three hits and struck out four.

UC jumped ahead in the first as Glass picked up the first of his career-high five hits with a two-out single. He moved to second on an error and Nic Spence delivered a double to right center to bring him home.

The Bearcats added two in the second and two in the fourth before blowing things open with a five-run fifth inning. UC loaded the bases with nobody out on an error, a single, and a fielder's choice. After a sacrifice fly from Ryan Quinn and an RBI single from Taylor Schmidt, Matt Williams slugged a 2-0 pitch over the right field wall for a three-run homer and a 10-0 UC lead.

UC tacked on three more in the sixth on a two-out three-run bomb from Jake Proctor.

Zach Morris, Grant Walker, and Zach Isler closed out the game on the mound with a combined 4.0 innings, allowing three singles.

Schmidt picked up three hits in his first career start and Proctor knocked in a career-best five runs.

UC opens its home slate on Friday, March 2, at 4 p.m. in Marge Schott Stadium.
