CINCINNATI - Former University of Cincinnati men's soccer players Omar Cummings and Tim Brown squared against one another as members of their respective national teams on Wednesday, Feb. 29, inside Mt. Smart Stadium in Auckland, New Zealand.
Brown's New Zealand national squad welcomed Cummings and his Jamaican national team for an international friendly match in which Jamaica prevailed 3-2.
Cummings played an early role as he helped to create an opening in which his teammate Tramaine Stewart scored Jamaica's second goal of the match. Jamaica led 2-1 in the 76th minute when Navian Boyd added another goal for them, making the score 3-1. New Zealand's Chris Killen responded quickly with a goal of his own, bringing them within one, but the comeback would fall short.
Cummings played at Cincinnati for the 2005 and 2006 seasons. As a Bearcat, Cummings was named to the 2006 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas All-America first team. He is the only player in school history to be named first team All-American. In each of his two years here, he was a unanimous first team All-BIG EAST selection. In addition, he was selected twice to the NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region first team. When he finished his career at Cincinnati, he was ranked fifth in school history in assists with 16. His 42 career total points are just shy of the school's top 10. He was one of only 58 college seniors chosen to participate in the Major League Soccer Player Combine. He was selected by the Colorado Rapids in the 2007 MLS Super Draft, and has been playing with them ever since.
Tim Brown was a midfielder and three time co-captain at the University of Cincinnati from 2000 to 2003. Out of those four seasons, he had his best year as a senior where he totaled 12 goals, 7 assists, and a sum of 31 points. That was good for first in the conference for total points and points per game along with second in the conference for goals scored and goals per game. In his senior season, Brown was an Academic All-American, first team All-Conference USA, second team All-Great Lakes Region and first team All-Ohio. He was part of one of the greatest games in Bearcat soccer history where he scored the game winning goal in overtime to beat Saint Louis who was ranked 5th in the nation at the time. Brown has played for the Wellington Phoenix of the A-League since 1997.
