FARMVILLE, Va. - Laura Simanski scored four goals, but the University of Cincinnati lacrosse team dropped a 17-11 decision at Longwood on Friday at the Longwood Athletics Complex.
Megan Bell added three goals and Katie Kiriazoglou, who was named to last week's BIG EAST Honor Roll, tallied a pair of goals and an assist.
The Bearcats opened the scoring when MacKenzie Parsons tallied her sixth goal of the season just over a minute into the game.
Longwood scored the next six goals, including two by Alexa Anderson, to take control before Simanski scored her first of the game with 14:49 to play in the first half to make it 6-2.
Longwood scored two straight before back-to-back goals from Simanski and Bell made it 8-4 with 8:31 to go in the half.
Longwood closed out the stanza by scoring the next four goals - three by Jessica Rudloff - to take a 12-4 lead into halftime.
The Bearcats (2-2) drew within 15-11 with under five minutes remaining, but Longwood (1-3) added two goals late to produce the final margin.
The Bearcats and Lancers matched one another with 26 shots. UC was able to convert just 3-of-8 free position attempts.
Cincinnati is back in action on Sunday when it travels to Liberty for a 2 p.m. start.
