SOUTH BEND, Ind. - University of Cincinnati student-athlete Jasmine Cotten took second place in the high jump at the Alex Wilson Invitational inside the Loftus Sports Center on the campus of Notre Dame University in South Bend, Ind.
Several Bearcats are competing in the last chance meet to better their season-best times and marks in hopes of qualifying for the 2012 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championship next weekend in Boise, Idaho.
Cotten leaped 1.69m (5-06.50) to place second behind Notre Dame's Maddie Buttinger (1.74m/5-08.50).
Cotten, the 2012 BIG EAST Champion in the pentathlon, is already automatically qualified for the NCAA meet in the pentathlon, but was trying to improve on her season-best mark of 5-11.5, set at the BIG EAST Conference Championship in New York City two weeks ago. She currently is tied for the 13th best mark nationally in the high jump.
Cotten will also compete Saturday in the 60 hurdles. Also in action for the Bearcats will be Terence Somerville (60 hurdles), Maurice Norman (400 meters), 2012 BIG EAST Champion Kathy Klump (800 meters) and the trio of 2012 BIG EAST Champion Sarah Rasnick, Michelle Eby and Emily Clay in the pole vault.
