2012 BIG EAST Championship Bracket
CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati men's basketball team will play Thursday, March 8, in the quarterfinals of the 30th annual BIG EAST Championship after earning the double-bye Saturday. The contest will be televised by ESPN at approximately 2 p.m. ET and can be heard on 700 WLW-AM.
The fourth-seeded Bearcats (22-9, 12-6 BIG EAST) will wait to play the victor of fifth-seed Georgetown's contest against either No. 13 seed Pittsburgh vs. No. 12 seed St. John's. The Panthers and Red Storm play at approximately 2 p.m. ET on Tuesday in first-round action with the winner battling the Hoyas at approximately 2 p.m. on Wednesday in second-round play.
UC's double-bye selection is its first since joining the BIG EAST Conference for the 2005-06 season. UC's previous best seed was No. 7 in last season's BIG EAST Championship. The Bearcats finished the 2012 league schedule with its most conference wins in school history at 12. UC enters the tournament having won five of their past six games, including Saturday's 72-68 win at Villanova.
The Bearcats are 3-5 all-time in the BIG EAST Championship, advancing to the quarterfinal round each of the past two seasons.
