ORLANDO, Fla. - The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team closed out its spring break trip to Florida with a 6-1 victory against Wisconsin-Milwaukee (9-6) on Wednesday afternoon in Orlando.
The Bearcats got off to a good start in their effort to extend their winning streak to two by winning two out of the three doubles matches to capture the doubles point.
Jasmine Lee and Ashleigh Witte defeated Maddy Soule and Christina Colarossi in an 8-6 decision. Kristina Georgieva and Safiyya Ismail came away victorious as well with an 8-4 decision over Megan Gow and Beth Ganser.
Sierra Sullivan and Carly Wilson were unable to extend their doubles play winning streak to two after falling to Milwaukee's Kelly Fritz and Kristin Kurer in an 8-4 decision.
UC continued its hot singles play with wins in five out the six singles matches, three of which were sent into a tiebreaking third set.
In the No. 1 singles position Jasmine Lee turned in a hard-fought three set win over Maddy Soule with a 6-0, 3-6, 7-6 decision. In the No. 2 singles position, Kristina Georgieva pushed Chelsea Bailey to three sets and came away victorious with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 decision. Safiyya Ismail battled to a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 triumph over Kristina Kurer.
Ashleigh Witte topped Kelly Fritz 6-4, 6-4, while Sierra Sullivan defeated Christina Colarossi 7-6, 6-3.
Carly Wilson fell in a 6-1, 6-2 decision against Milwaukee's Brittany Skemp.
The Bearcats finish their spring break road trip to Florida with a 2-1 record, winning their last two matches.
Cincinnati (6-11) returns to action on the road again with a March 30 match against BIG EAST foe Marquette at 3 p.m. in Milwaukee, Wis.
