ORLANDO, Fla. - Emelie Larsson set a school record in the javelin at the University of Cincinnati women's track and field team closed out day one at the UCF Invitational in Orlando, Fla.

Larsson, a freshman competing in her first meet for UC, placed third in the javelin, netting a school-record mark of 45.49m (149-03). She threw 153-11 (46.92m) while competing unattached at the Early Bird Relays last weekend.

Jasmine Cotten and Kaitlyn Good both fouled on all three of their attempts.

Cortney Staruch took second place in the 3,000 steeplechase, clocking 11:07.83, the fourth-best time in school history.

Sarah Rasnick placed fourth in the pole vault after failing to clear a height a week ago in the home opener. Rasnick, the 2011 BIG EAST Conference Indoor Champion, cleared 3.95m (12-11.50).

Mackenzie Fields was ninth at 3.65m (11-11.75) and Emily Clay tied for 11th at 3.65m (11-11.75). Michelle Eby fialed to clear her opening height of 3.80m (12-05.50).

Frida Akerstrom had a heave of 46.43m (152-04) in the hammer throw, placing 10th, one spot out of the final. Mekayla Breland, Mary Bridges and Jessica Molyet all fouled on their three preliminary attempts.

The Bearcats will be back in action Saturday, closing out the meet in Orlando.
