Strong Final Round Gives Men's Golf 12th Place Finish

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The University of Cincinnati men's golf team shot the fourth lowest score of the final round to finish 12th at the Fifth Annual Columbia Orthopaedic Group Mizzou Intercollegiate at the Club at Hawthorne (7,221-yard, par 72).

With rounds of 317-310-298=925, UC's final-round score allowed it to move past Northern Iowa, Creighton and South Dakota State. Host Missouri captured the title finishing 8-below par at 275-289-292=864.

Bearcats junior David Tepe surged from a tie for 65th place to finish in a three-way tie for 28th. Tepe (Liberty Township, Ohio/Lakota East) ended the final round with a 3-under par 69 for a tournament score of 10-over par 80-77-69=226. Missouri's Ryan Zech maintained his lead after the first two rounds to earn medalist honors at 8-under par 67-70-71=208.

"I am very proud of this team's effort today," head coach Doug Martin said. "They refused to quit. We have been through a very tough year and these kids just keep fighting."

Junior Jared Howard finished the final round 1-above par 73. Howard (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) placed 48th with a score of 82-76-73=231. Freshman Michael Wolf ended the tournament tied for 54th place. Wolf (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller) earned rounds of 74-79-80 =233. Junior Andrew Desmarais (Union, Ky./Ryle) placed in a two-way for 72nd at 81-82-76=239. Freshman Mike Irwin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller) completed his first spring tournament in 78th at 84-78-85=247.

The Bearcats travel to Muncie, Ind. for Ball State's Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational at the Delaware Country Club, April 21-22.
