CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati women's volleyball team will open its spring campaign this weekend under the direction of new head coach Molly Alvey, who was hired in February.

The Bearcats, coming off a BIG EAST Tournament championship, will open play at the Ohio Valley Volleyball Center Spring Collegiate Tournament in Louisville, Ky., on April 14. Matches will be played at the Ohio Valley Volleyball Center (directions). UC will be one of 17 teams participating in the tourney, which will be divided into pools for play. Louisville, Xaiver, Kentucky, Morehead State, Tennessee-Martin, Marshall, Lipscomb, Western Kentucky, Indiana, Eastern Kentucky, Samford, Ohio State, Ohio, Georgia Tech, Murray State, and Mississippi will all be in attendance.

On April 20, the Bearcats will welcome Xavier and Wright State to campus for a 3:30 p.m. start. The matches will be played in the practice gym in the Richard E. Lindner Center.

UC will wrap up its spring slate on April 28 at noon when it welcomes Morehead State to Fifth Third Arena. The event is free and open to the public.

Cincinnati has won 20 or more matches in 16 of the last 17 seasons and has made four straight NCAA tournament appearances. The Bearcats won BIG EAST regular-season titles in 2008 and 2010 and earned the program's first BIG EAST championship tournament title in 2011. Since 2003, 11 Bearcats have earned AVCA All-America honors. Two-time All-America middle blocker Jordanne Scottreturns for her senior season in 2012 after leading the Bearcats to a 27-10 mark in 2011. UC is 58-10 against BIG EAST opponents over the last four seasons and held the nation's longest active home-court winning streak throughout the 2011 season, ultimately reaching 48 straight home victories.
