COLUMBUS, Ohio - Mary Bridges set a school record in the discus as the University of Cincinnati track and field squad wrapped up the first of a two-day stint at the 27th Jesse Owens Track Classic Friday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
The first night of events highlighted field and distance athletes. Day two begins at 10:30 a.m. ET with the pole vault. Running events start at noon. Live results are available at www.finishtiming.com.
Bridges threw 49.84m (163-6) to set the UC record and take second in the discus event, behind Michigan State's Beth Rohl who was first at 51.92m (168-2). Bridges bettered her own school record of 49.83m (160-4), set a year ago.
Also competing in the event for the Bearcats was Jessica Molyet in 10th with a toss of 44.91m (147-4) and Frida Akerstrom placing 12th with her heave of 44.18m (144-11).
In the men's discus, Jake Haseman threw 50.53m (165-9) to finish 10 while Chris Littleton threw 49.75m (163-03) to place 13th.
Brian Zimmerman and Josh Ballenger finished 4-5 in the javelin. Zimmerman was fourth with a toss of 61.10m (200-5) and Ballenger threw 53.43m (175-3) to earn fifth.
Evan Baum clocked 3:52.76 in the 1,500 meters to grab a Top-20 finish in 19th.
Greg Sanders took 33rd in the 5,000 meters with a run of 14:57.49.
