CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati men's golf team will compete at the BIG EAST Championship, April 29-May 1 at Reunion Resort (par 72, 7,089 yards) in Orlando, Fla. The three-day, 54-hole event will be played on the Watson course.

Along with Cincinnati, 11 other teams will participate in the tournament: Connecticut, DePaul, Georgetown, Louisville, Marquette, Notre Dame, Rutgers, St. John's, Seton Hall, USF and Villanova.

The Bearcats are coming off a tie for 11th place at the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational hosted by Ball State on April 22. Junior David Tepe (Liberty Township, Ohio/Lakota East) carded his best tournament score of the spring season with a 75-70-76=221 to tie for 11th place. Tepe enters the BIG EAST Championship with a team-best 74.53 stroke average.

Other Bearcats competing at the league tournament include junior Andrew Desmarais (Union, Ky./Ryle) and freshmen Michael Wolf (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller), Jared Howard (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) and Mike Irwin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller).

"This year has been a challenge with some injuries and having to break in three freshmen playing their first season of collegiate golf," UC head coach Doug Martin said. "I believe in this team, I appreciate the effort they have given and hope that things will come together for them this week. I have never had a team work this hard and want to play well as bad as they do."

UC finished sixth at last year's BIG EAST Championship, posting a 301-303-294=898. Former Bearcat Joe Kastelic took third place with a 3-over par 69-75-72=216.

Each round will start at 8 a.m. ET. Live scoring will be available at www.golfstat.com.
