DES MOINES, Iowa - The University of Cincinnati track and field team wrapped up the first day of action at the Drake Relays Friday inside Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.

The 4x100 relay quartet of Morgan Gordon, Shanay Portis, Cameron Gardner and Alyssa Edley ran 46.30 grabbing the eighth and final spot to qualify for the Saturday relay final.

Portis also clocked 12.19 in the 100 meter qualifier, placing third in the fourth heat and finishing 10th overall, just out of the last finals qualifying slot.

The 4x400 relay team of Jalisa Jarrett, Edley, Aricka Rhodes and Morgan Gordon ran 3:51.76 to placed 21st in the preliminary round.

Emelie Larsson threw 47.52m (155-11) and placed eighth in the women's javelin.

Mary Bridges placed 15th in the women's discus after throwing 49.46m (162-03).

Brian Zimmerman was sixth in the men's javelin with a best effort of 60.18m (197-05) in a competition won by Florida's Stipe Zunic (74.61m/244.09).

Mackenzie Fields was third in the women's pole vault, clearing 4.00m (13-01.50).

Chris Littleton was second in the flight one of the men's shot put, tossing 16.36m (53-08.25), placing him 16th overall.

Frida Akerstrom was 26th in the women's shot put, clearing 14.14m (46-04.75).

The relays conclude Saturday. Bearcats scheduled to be in action include: the 4x100 relay team, assistant coach Mary Wineberg in the special 400 meters and Jake Haseman and Littleton in the men's discus.
