DETROIT, Mich. - The University of Cincinnati lacrosse team (3-13) outscored Detroit (7-8) in the second half, but its last-minute efforts were not enough as UC was defeated, 14-11, in its regular season finale on Monday afternoon at Titan Field.
Junior Marissa Pierson (Sykesville, Md./Century) tied a career-high with four goals, while Kylie Ramsland (Catonsville, Md./Chapelgate Christian Academy) and Ali Mattingly (Davidsonville, Md./South River) scored three and two goals, respectively. Senior Rachel Mercier (Catonsville, Md./Chapelgate Christian Academy) ended her final campaign on a 16-game point-scoring streak with two assists against the Titans.
After opening up with a 2-0 lead within the first seven minutes, UC knotted it up within minutes to make it 2-2 with 19:18 on the clock. Detroit went on a four-goal run to increase its advantage, 6-2, before the Bearcats and Titans exchanged two goals each to head into the locker room with Detroit up, 8-4.
The first 15 minutes of the second half were a back-and-forth battle, as Ramsland's two-consecutive goals pulled UC within three, 10-7, with 13:46 remaining. The Titans netted three more to increase its lead to a game-high, 13-8, but a late Bearcats rally pulled UC back into the game, 13-11, with 1:36 left. But the Titans netted one more with 10 seconds left to seal the victory.
Cincinnati dominated at the draw, 18-9, while Detroit narrowly outshot UC, 34-28.
UC's Jennifer Walsh had 11 saves on the afternoon, while Detroit's Lexie McCormick had 14.
