CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team topped Northern Kentucky 7-0 on Wednesday afternoon at the Western Tennis and Fitness Club.
The match, originally scheduled for UC's on-campus, outdoor Trabert-Talbert Tennis Center, was moved indoors due to inclement weather in the area.
The Bearcats (7-13) swept the doubles point with Jasmine Lee and Ashleigh Witte defeating Clemence Binon and Claire Spradlin 8-0. Kristina Georgieva and Safiyya Ismail topped Marta Romeo and Whitney Thomas, 8-6, while Sierra Sullivan and Carly Wilson outdueling Jill Sturgeon and Jenny Hand, 8-4.
UC won each of the six singles matches in straight sets, led by Lee's 6-2, 6-3 victory over Spradlin in the No. 1 spot. Georgieva topped Romeo, 6-0, 6-2, and Witte defeated Binon, 6-1, 6-2. At the No. 4 spt, Sullivan finished off Hand, 6-2, 6-4, Ismail eased past Thomas, 6-0, 6-2, and Wilson topped Sturgeon, 6-1, 6-2.
The Bearcats have won five of the last six home matches, all played indoors at the Western Tennis and Fitness Club.
UC will take on crosstown rival Xavier on Tuesday, April 10, at 3 p.m. at the Trabert-Talbert Tennis Center on UC's campus.
