CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Senior Josefin Wede (Landskrona, Sweden/Gripenskolan/Auburn ) and sophomore Joe Scherpenberg (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle) of the University of Cincinnati swimming teams competed last weekend at the USA Swimming Charlotte UltraSwim Grand Prix at Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center.

Wede, the UC record holder in the 100-yard breaststroke, highlighted the weekend for the two Bearcats when she placed seventh overall in the `A' final of the 200-meter long course breaststroke with an official time of 2 minutes, 32.73 seconds. The Swede also placed 20th overall and fourth in the `C' final of the 100-meter long course breaststroke with a time of 1:12.51. She added a fifth-place finish (21st overall) in the 50-meter long course breaststroke `C' final after posting a mark 34.79 seconds.

Scherpenberg competed in the 50-meter and 100-meter long course backstrokes; earning a sixth-place mark in the 50 back after finishing in 27.63 second. The 6-foot-7 Cincinnati native earned a No. 36 ranking in the 100 backstroke when he posted a time of 59.26 seconds.

Former UC standout and 2010 NCAA champion in the 50-yard freestyle, Josh Schneider (Cincinnati, Ohio/Taylor) also swam at the Charlotte Ultraswim and excelled with an individual championship and a first-place relay showing.

Competing for SwimMAC Carolina, Schneider earned a first-place showing in the 50-meter long course freestyle after recording a mark of 22.10 seconds. He also swam the leadoff leg of the winning 400-meter long course freestyle relay team that finished in 3:21.46.

Schneider rounded out the weekend with a sixth-place overall mark (24.49 seconds) in the 50-meter long course butterfly, as well as a second-place finish (and ninth overall) in the `B' final of the 100-meter long course freestyle with a time of 49.76 seconds.
