CINCINNATI - As the fall athletic season is nearly upon us, the finishing touches are being put on facility upgrades in and around UC's Varsity Village.
The new playing surface, FieldTurf Revolution, has been successfully installed at Gettler Stadium and is presently being used by the soccer programs in their preparations for the fall campaign. A targeted Aug. 1 completion date was met, in time for the beginning of fall practice and preseason exhibition games. Click here for the Gettler Stadium turf replacement time lapse.
The functional and aesthetic changes in the practice gym inside the Richard E. Lindner Center have also been completed. In addition to the installation of sound-absorbent panels, UC branded graphics, as well as sport-specific graphics and banners, have been displayed to improve the aesthetics of the facility. The banners highlight the great tradition of UC's basketball and volleyball programs and honor some of the great players who have impacted these Bearcats programs. Graphics have also been included to feature game action of recent Bearcats teams.
The new-look Fifth Third Arena floor is complete and has been successfully installed in its new home. After being stacked and housed in Fifth Third Arena to acclimate to the facility's air conditioning system, the 4-by-8 foot wood panels have been laid and are ready to be put into use by the volleyball and basketball teams. The Sheakley Athletics Center is nearing its completion, targeted to be finished in time for the facility's grand opening on Aug. 28. With the majority of the exterior construction complete, the final touches are being placed inside the press box and to the facility's other interior features. The scoreboard/video platform located between the full-length field and the neighboring half field is all but done, now only awaiting the installation of the Daktronics video/scoreboard.
After a busy summer of facility upgrades, the pieces are in place for an exciting fall season of Bearcats athletics.
