WEST HARRISON, Ind. - The University of Cincinnati football put practice four in the books Saturday at the Higher Ground Conference & Retreat Center in West Harrison, Ind.
The Bearcats practice under sunny skies in shoulder pads for the second-straight day. UC returns to the practice field Sunday for its first full-pads workout as the NCAA -mandated five-day acclimatization period wraps up.
"I like our energy level, focus and leadership so far," Head Coach Butch Jones said. "Now we need to move on to sharpening the small details and creating a sense of urgency. We need to start locking in on the habits we are creating for Team 125."
At the end of practice, Coach Jones challenged returner Ralph David Abernathy IV (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster School) to catch 10 punts cleanly from Pat O'Donnell (Lakeworth, Fla./Palm Beach Central) with a gasser for the team on the line for each kick he dropped. The sophomore speedster fielded all 10 without trouble and was mobbed by his teammates to close out the Saturday session.
UC is in its 14th season holding preseason training camp at Higher Ground
"I think Camp Higher Ground is one of the greatest things we do in our program," Jones said. "It's all football with one way in and one way out. Being in this setting really eliminates the clutter and allows us to be together with our football family. We win because of Higher Ground."
FAMILY NIGHT …
- The families of the coaching staff were on hand for dinner Saturday night. Each family member stood up at the evening's team meeting and introduced themselves to the football family.
