CINCINNATI -- After scoring three goals in her first two collegiate matches, University of Cincinnati freshman forward Laura Rose (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills) was named the BIG EAST Conference Rookie of the Week, the league announced Monday.

"I think Laura would be the first to tell you that she wouldn't have earned this award without her teammates," said UC head coach Michelle Salmon. "Our backline played great over the weekend. Our midfield did a nice job with distributing the ball and finding Laura in spots where she could make a play. We appreciate the recognition, but this is a team award."

Rose received the honor after amassing six points in a 1-0-1 week for Cincinnati. The freshman scored her first collegiate goal in the 12th minute against Elon on Friday, the Bearcats' only score in a 1-1 draw. Rose also scored twice in a 3-1 victory at N.C. State on Sunday.

Through the first weekend of the season, Rose is tied with Rutgers redshirt junior forward Jonelle Filigno, a member of the 2012 London Olympics bronze-medal Canadian national team, for the conference lead in points and goals scored.

Rose and the Bearcats resume play Sunday with a 1 p.m. match versus Northeastern at Gettler Stadium.
