CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati women's golf team and Director of Golf Janet Carl announced the 2012-13 schedule today (Aug. 23). The Bearcats will tee it up against some of the strongest fields in college golf while competing in six states during the campaign.
The Bearcats open the fall portion of the schedule at the Old Waverly Bulldog Invitational, hosted by Mississippi State on Sept. 10-12. The Cardinal Cup in Louisville, Ky., is set for Sept. 17-18 with the Nittany Lion Invitational scheduled for Sept. 28-30 in State College, Pa. Strong, competitive fields await in the final two fall events: Price's Give `Em Five Intercollegiate (Oct. 8-10), hosted by New Mexico State and Florida International's Pat Bradley Invitational in Sarasota, Fla. (Oct. 21-23).
The spring opens with the Sir Pizza Classic in Weston, Fla., on Feb. 25-26, followed by the Clover Cup, hosted by BIG EAST foe Notre Dame on March 8-10 in Mesa, Ariz. The Bearcats will host the UC Spring Invitational during spring break, March 22-24, in Crystal River, Fla., and wrap up the regular spring season with a trip to Jacksonville, Fla., for Jacksonville's Marsh Landing Invitational on April 8-9.
The BIG EAST Championship is set for April 21-23 at the Reunion Resort in Orlando, Fla.
"Our schedule is the strongest the team will have played since I have been coaching at Cincinnati," said Carl. "I am excited for the team to get to play and test their abilities against such high-level opponents."
UC's top five golfers from last season all return, including seniors Alex Carl (78.8 stroke average in 2011-12) and Maria Roos (78.4). Juniors Andrea Malek and Olivia Dose led the way in 2011-12 with 77.0 and 77.5 stroke averages, respectively. Sophomore Mackenzie Moir and senior Fredricka Winqvist round out the returnees.
The Bearcats will welcome four newcomers to the squad. Chloe Williams, a St. Ursula graduate and Cincinnati native, will stay close to home to play her collegiate golf. Two other Ohioans join the roster in Stephanie Horvath of Medina and Ali Jakubecz of Strongsville. Stefanie Mitchell, a two-time district player of the year from Sarasota, Fla., rounds out the incoming class.
The Bearcats open play on Sept. 10 at the Old Waverly Bulldog Invitational in West Point, Miss.
