CINCINNATI — The University of Cincinnati women's soccer team fell to DePaul University 1-0 Friday evening at Gettler Stadium.
In the 88th minute, DePaul freshman midfielder Brianna Ryce captured a loose ball following a corner kick and struck a shot from eight yards out that hit the top of the crossbar and into the goal, the only score of the match.
Cincinnati (3-4-1, 0-1 BIG EAST) had its chances after outshooting the Blue Demons 18-14, led by forwards Jazmine Rhodes (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach Polytechnic) and Laura Rose (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills), who each took a match-high four shots.
DePaul (5-3-1, 1-0 BIG EAST) backstop Megan Pyrz, fresh off of BIG EAST Conference Goalkeeper of the Week honors, totaled seven saves, including five stops in the second half.
UC sophomore keeper Kristina Utley (Castro Valley, Calif./Castro Valley), who entered the weekend leading the BIG EAST in saves per match, tallied just two stops.
Cincinnati's best opportunities occurred in the first half when Rose twice had good looks that didn't reach the goal, including one shot that tipped off the crossbar from the right side of the 18-yard box.
The Bearcats hit the road to Indiana to take on Notre Dame 1 p.m. Sunday at Alumni Stadium.
