CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati volleyball team will begin a three-match road swing when they travel to the University of Pittsburgh and the University of South Florida this weekend. The Bearcats will play the Panthers on Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. and will match up against the Bulls on Sept. 30 at 1 p.m.
UC enters the weekend with a 3-11 record and a 1-1 mark in BIG EAST play. The Bearcats fell to Notre Dame and topped DePaul in the opening weekend of conference play. Senior Rachel Rohlfs recorded a career-high 60 assists and senior Becca Refenes registered a double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs in the match against Notre Dame. In the second match against DePaul, senior Jordanne Scott recorded her second double-double of the season with 24 kills and a career-high 16 digs. Junior Emily MacIntyre totaled 34 and 28 digs in the two matches, respectively, and was named to the BIG EAST honor roll for her efforts.
PITTSBURGH SERIES
The Bearcats and the Panthers are tied in the series 8-8. The last match between the two schools was a 3-0 Bearcat victory at Fifth Third Arena on Oct. 22, 2011. Jordanne Scott posted 12 kills and a .409 attack percentage in the win. Overall, Cincinnati has won the past three meetings with Pittsburgh and has only dropped one set in the process.
ABOUT THE PANTHERS
Pittsburgh is 10-6 in 2011 and 1-1 in BIG EAST play. The Panthers are coming off of a five-set victory Over Rutgers on Sept. 23. Pittsburgh runs a very balanced offense and has seven players averaging at leasat 1.50 kills/set. Alexa Campbell leads the cause with 2.29 kills/set while Lindsey Zitzke is averaging 9.25 assists/set. Margy Acton leads the defensive effort with 5.27 digs/set andJasmine Dittrich paces the team with 0.96 blocks/set. The Panthers were picked to finish sixth in the BIG EAST.
USF SERIES
The Bearcats are 13-9 against the Bulls. The last meeting came on Oct. 30, 2011 when UC beat USF 3-1 at Fifth Third Arena. Jordanne Scott recorded 22 kills, five digs and three blocks in the match. The Bearcats are 9-0 against the Bulls since joining the BIG EAST in the 2005 season and have only lost five games during that span.
ABOUT THE BULLS
USF is 9-6 this season and 1-1 in conference action. USF has recorded over a hundred more kills (776-664), assists (731-620) and digs (963-856) than its opponents. Valerie El Houssine leads the Bulls with 2.91 kills/set and Wylie Devlin leads with 6.40 assists/set. Defensively, Claudia Cabrera leads with 4.71 digs/set and Caitlyn Breen leads with 1.19 blocks/set. the Bulls were picked to finish ninth in the BIG EAST.
Story Lines:
- Senior Jordanne Scott has recorded double-digit kills in all but one match this season. Overall, Scott has hit in double digits in 29 of the last 30 matches, dating back to Oct. 18, 2011. vs. Western Kentucky. Scott's season-high kills for the 2012 season is 24, one shy of her career-high, tallied on Sept. 23 against DePaul.
- Senior Jordanne Scott leads Cincinnati with 4.50 kills/set, senior Rachel Rohlfs leads with 11.67 assists/set, senior Becca Refenes leads with 0.98 blocks/set and junior Emily MacIntyre leads with 4.77 digs per set.
- Cincinnati ranks eighth in the BIG EAST with a .217 hitting percentage. It also ranks sixth with 12.63 assists/set and sixth with 13.35 kills/set.
- Rohlfs leads the conference, and ranks No. 13 in the NCAA, with 11.67 assists/set. Scott's 4.50 kills/set rank her second in the BIG EAST and tied for 14th in the NCAA. MacIntyre ranks seventh in the conference with 4.77 digs/set.
- Four current players are ranked among the program's elite in three different career statistical categories. Senior Emily Hayden is sixth in career hitting percentage with a .302 mark. Junior Emily MacIntyre sits at third in the record book with a 3.90 career digs per set clip. She also ranks seventh with 1,179 career digs. Senior Becca Refenes is currently in seventh with 385 block assists. Refenes also has 435 career blocks to put her at tenth. Senior Jordanne Scott is seventh in career hitting percentage with a .299 mark. She also 1,322 career kills to rank at No. 10 in the record book. The senior broke into the top-10 when she hit 15 kills in a 3-0 win over UCF on Sept. 14.
