LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The University of Cincinnati women's golf team is tied for ninth after round one at the Price's Give 'Em Five Intercollegiate at the New Mexico State Golf Course on Monday.
Alex Carl and Maria Roos each posted first-round scores of 75 to sit in a tie for 22nd. Mackenzie Moir carded a 76, while Andrea Malek shot 77 and Olivia Dose posted a 78 over the first 18.
The Bearcats' 303 was good for a tie with BYU for ninth place after the first round of play. Idaho paces the 15-team field with a first-round total of 290.
Yupaporn Kawinpakorn of Kansas shot the day's low round of 69 to hold a one-shot lead over New Mexico State's Kacey Dalpes, who carded a two-under 70.
"We got off to a good start today," said head coach Janet Carl. "The girls held it together and are ready to go out and play well tomorrow."
Nestled between the majestic Organ Mountains and the Mesilla Valley, the 18-hole NM State Golf Course plays at par72, 6,319 yards. The layout includes tifgreen 328 fairways, bent-grass greens and roughs containing plant life common to the desert Southwest including creosote, mesquite, yucca and cactus. The course consists of four par-3 holes, 10 par-4 holes and four par-5 holes.
The second round will get underway with a shotgun start at 10:30 a.m. ET.
