CINCINNATI - Each year, the University of Cincinnati Department Of Athletics recognizes its top student-athletes with an induction into the Legion of Excellence. This year's class of 17 will be recognized at the Legion of Excellence gala on Tuesday, October 30th at the Kingsgate Marriott near UC's campus. The night will also include the induction of the newest James P. Kelly, Sr., Athletics Hall of Fame members, and the bestowing of the Order of the Black Blazer to the department's most devoted supporters.
The selection into the Legion of Excellence is based on the student's cumulative grade-point average and good academic standing within the individual's athletics team and college. Due to team competitions the evening of the event, a small number of the honorees will not be able to be in attendance.
Induction into the Order of the Black Blazer recognizes individuals for their contributions and support of UC Athletics. This year, Black Blazer's will be bestowed upon Jack Aufderbeck, Roy Evers and George Strike.
Finally, the James P. Kelly, Sr. Athletics Hall of Fame will be inducting five new members including the 1961-62 NCAA Championship Men's Basketball Team, UC's first baseball All-American Bill Faul, former football standout Jonathan Ruffin, Helen Norman Smith Award winner Miriam Merrill, and legendary Men's and Women's Track & Field and Cross Country Head Coach Bill Schnier.
