CINCINNATI- The University of Cincinnati lacrosse team helped support breast cancer awareness by taking part in the American Cancer Society of Greater Cincinnati Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk which was held at Yeatman's Cove at the Cincinnati riverfront on Sunday Oct. 14, 2012.

The event is a five mile fundraising walk to help the battle in putting an end to breast cancer.

The lacrosse team helped raise over $900 by conducting a bake sale, conducting a "teach some LAX lessons" for those who donated $1 toward the fight against breast cancer, as well as getting donations. They made shirts for the event and those who have been affected by breast cancer honored those they know by putting their names on the back of their shirts.

"Not only was this a team bonding experience, but it was a way to get involved and let the community know that we are supporting them," said first year head coach Gina Oliver.

"It is a way to move to life off the field and let the girls realize that there is more to life than school and lacrosse," continued Oliver.

Head coach Gina Oliver will begin her first season as head coach of the Bearcats after five seasons as an assistant coach at Duquesne University. Oliver's squad features veteran returnees in attacker Marissa Pierson, who led the team last season with 28 goals, and goalkeeper Jennifer Walsh, who started all 16 matches in 2012. UC also returns sophomore midfielder Megan Bell who notched 21 goals as a freshman.
