CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati volleyball team will play host to No. 13 University of Louisville on Sun., Oct. 28 at 1 p.m. at Fifth Third Arena. The match will be broadcast live on ESPNU.
UC enters the weekend with a 9-14 record and a 7-3 mark in BIG EAST play. The Bearcats, winners of seven of their last 10 matches, currently sit at fourth in the league standings. The split its two matches on the road last week, falling to Marquette and sweeping Syracuse.
The Bearcats are led by defensive specialist Emily MacIntyre (Muncie, Ind./Yorktown) who ranks second in the BIG EAST with 6.07 digs/set in conference matches. The junior is third in program history with 1,454 career digs and second with a 4.19 digs/set ratio.
Offensively, senior Emily Hayden (Louisville, Ky./Assumption) paces the team with a .307 attacking percentage after hitting .647 with 12 kills in her last outing against Syracuse. She currently ranks sixth in the UC record book with a .307 career clip. Senior Jordanne Scott (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) has produced 4.40 kills/set this season. She ranks seventh in program history with 1,520 career kills and is only 14 away from moving into sixth place. Senior Rachel Rohlfs (Cincinnati, Ohio/Grand Valley State) leads UC with 10.70 assists/set.
The Bearcats will be celebrating its Think Pink match in honor of breast cancer awareness and is encouraging all fans to wear pink.
LOUISVILLE SERIES
Cincinnati is 17-33 against its longtime rivals from the south. Since the two teams joined the BIG EAST in 2005, the Bearcats are 2-7 against the Cardinals, including a 3-1 loss in the title match of the 2009 BIG EAST Championship. UC has lost the last four matches and has not won since a sweep of UofL on Oct. 23, 2009 at Fifth Third Arena. In the last meeting between the two teams, a 3-0 Cardinal sweep in Louisville, Ky., Emily Hayden led the Bearcats with eight kills and a .316 hitting percentage.
ABOUT THE CARDINALS
No. 13 Louisville is 20-3 on the season and currently sits atop the BIG EAST standings with a 9-1 record. All three of the Cardinals' losses have come at the KFC Yum! Center, and the team is looking to close out its road schedule at Cincinnati with an unbeaten road record. The Cardinals lead the conference in assists (13.16/set) and kills (13.99/set) while ranking third in hitting percentage (.251), third in blocks (2.34/set) and second in digs (17.16/set). UofL is led by Lola Arslanbekova, the 2011 BIG EAST Player of the Year and the 2012 preseason BIG EAST Player of the Year. The senior, a four-time BIG EAST Player of the Week recipient, leads the conference and ranks third in the NCAA with 5.03 kills/set. Senior Gwen Rucker leads the team with a .337 hitting percentage and is first in the BIG EAST with 1.32 blocks/game.
Story Lines:
- Since 2005, the Bearcats are 2-1 when hosting nationally televised matches. In 2005, UC lost to No. 6 Louisville 3-1 on ESPNU. Since then, Cincinnati has won back-to-back ESPNU matches, both against Notre Dame. The Bearcats beat the Fighting Irish in four sets in 2008 before sweeping their rivals in 2010.
- The Bearcats are now 5-2 in the month of October. Dating back to the 2008 season, Cincinnati is 41-6 in October and has not lost more than two matches during the month. In October, UC was 8-2 (2011), 9-1 (2010), 8-1 (2009) and 11-0 (2008).
- Senior Jordanne Scott has recorded double-digit kills in all but three matches this season. Overall, Scott has hit in double digits in 36 of the last 39 matches, dating back to Oct. 18, 2011 vs. Western Kentucky. Scott's season-high kills for the 2012 season is 24 (one shy of her career-high) tallied on Sept. 23 against DePaul.
- Cincinnati ranks seventh in the BIG EAST with a .215 hitting percentage. It also ranks sixth with 12.55 assists/set and sixth with 13.30 kills/set.
- Scott's 4.40 kills/set rank her second in the BIG EAST and 15th in the NCAA. Rohlfs is fourth the conference with 10.70 assists/set. MacIntyre ranks fourth in the conference, and 37th in the NCAA, with 5.24 digs/set.
- Four current players are ranked among the program's elite in seven different career statistical categories. Senior Emily Hayden is sixth in career hitting percentage with a .307 mark. Junior Emily MacIntyre sits at second in the record book with a 4.19 career digs per set clip. She also ranks third with 1,454 career digs. Senior Becca Refenes is currently in sixth with 402 block assists. She also has 457 career blocks to put her at tenth. Refenes has played in 132 career matches and is two away from moving into 10th place. Senior Jordanne Scott has recorded 1,520 career kills to rank her seventh in program history and is 14 away from moving up into the sixth spot (1,534). She also ranks 10th with 3,374 total attempts and 10th with 472 career sets played. Scott has played in 132 career matches and is two away from moving into 10th place.
