MILWAUKEE - The University of Cincinnati volleyball team attended the BIG EAST Championship banquet Thursday evening and four team members were honored with conference distinctions. Senior Jordanne Scott (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team while senior Emily Hayden (Louisville, Ky./Assumption), junior Emily MacIntyre (Muncie, Ind./Yorktown), and senior Becca Refenes (Westland, Mich./Lutheran Westland) were chosen for the All-BIG EAST Second Team. The conference honors were picked by the league's 14 head coaches.
"Through the challenges of en extremely tough schedule, I am happy for our players to be recognized for the successes they have achieved this season" said head coach Molly Alvey. "Out of all 14 teams in the league, Cincinnati had the most representation on the all-conference awards list and it was great to be recognized as individuals and as a team tonight"
Scott was chosen to the All-BIG EAST First Team for the third consecutive season, and was a unanimous selection this season. The middle blocker/right side hitter leads the Bearcats, and ranks second in the league, with a 463 kills for a 4.37 kills/set ratio. In BIG EAST play, she averaged 4.39 kills/set and 2.37 digs/set behind six double-double performances, including three consecutive double-doubles entering the tournament. Scott ranks second in program history with 138 matches played and fourth with 492 sets played. She sits at fifth all-time with 1,605 career kills, eighth with 3,599 career attempts, 10th with a 3.26 kills/set average and ninth with 341 career block assists. In addition, Scott was named an AVCA All-America honorable mention honoree in 2010 and 2011 and was picked as a COBRA Magazine Preseason Player of the Year candidate for 2012. She has been awarded BIG EAST weekly honors three times this season and was selected the BIG EAST Player of the Week on Oct. 15.
Hayden earned her first all-conference recognition while being named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team. In BIG EAST matches, the senior ranked fourth with a .351 hitting percentage and had 150 kills. She recorded at least a .300 hitting percentage in 19 matches this season, including a career-high .647 percentage to go along with 12 kills at against Syracuse on Oct. 21. Hayden ranks sixth in program history with a .309 career attacking clip. She also was named to the all-tournament team for the La Quinta Invitational on Sept. 1.
MacIntyre was picked to the All-BIG EAST Second Team after ranking third in the BIG EAST with 5.74 digs/set during league matches. The defensive specialist recorded double-digit digs in all but three matches this season, and had 30 or more digs on four occasions. In a match against No. 23 Illinois on Sept. 15, she broke a six-year-old school record with 38 digs in a match for a 9.50 digs/set average. The junior ranks second in program history with 4.25 digs/set and third with 1,561 career digs. She also is on track to break the record for digs/set in a season with 5.26 and currently ranks second with 593 digs in 2012. She was named to two season all-tournament teams and was picked the Most Valuable Libero at the Time Warner Cable Texas Invitational on Sept. 15. This is the first all-conference honor for MacIntyre.
Refenes earns All-BIG EAST SecondTeam honors after a solid senior campaign. She recorded a .219 hitting percentage in 2012 with 243 kills, 153 digs and 77 blocks. She set a career-high with 16 digs against Seton Hall on Oct. 7 and tied a career mark with four aces at Connecticut on Oct. 15. The senior ranks second with 138 career matches played and seventh with 487 career sets played. She also ranks sixth in block assists with 409 and ninth in total blocks with 465. She was named to the BIG EAST honor roll on Oct. 1. This is the first all-conference honor for Refenes.
The Bearcats, the tournament's No. 5 seed, will kick off the BIG EAST Championship at 11 a.m. ET on Fri., Nov. 16 against the No. 4 seed University of Connecticut. All matches will be played at the Al McGuire Center on the campus of Marquette University.
