LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Cincinnati swimming and diving teams were defeated by No. 16/17 University of Louisville in dual-meet action Saturday afternoon at Ralph Wright Natatorium.
The Cincinnati men lost by a count of 184-104, while the UC women fell 188-104.
Freshman Jessica Piper recorded Cincinnati's lone two individual first-place finishes of the day after producing BIG EAST Conference 'A' standard marks in the 100-yard (57.17 seconds) and 200-yard backstrokes (2:01.58).
In the women's 100-yard breaststroke, senior Bailey Laban placed second with a BIG EAST 'A' mark of 1:06.82.
UC junior Weronika Wasiakowska (1:54.06) and freshman Iuliia Fedoreeva (1:54.92) placed second and fourth, respectively, in the women's 200-yard freestyle race. Fedoreeva added a second-place showing in the 100-yard butterfly after finishing in 56.95 seconds, which was just 0.66 seconds behind UofL freshman Brittany Robinson.
Sophomore Helena Pikhartova gave the Bearcats third-place points in the 50-yard freestyle after finishing in 24.55 seconds. She later added a fourth-place showing in the 200-yard breaststroke with a recorded time of 2:27.74, which was one spot behind junior Victoria Jacumski's third-place time of 2:26.74.
In the men's division, sophomore Awse Ma'aya (51.96) and junior Joe Scherpenberg (53.17) placed second and third in the 100-yard backstroke.
Sophomore Mike Kaplan finished fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (22.07) and sophomore Brock Slavens (22.15) finished fifth. Kaplan later placed fifth in the 100 free with a time of 47.97 seconds.
In the men's 1,000-yard freestyle, freshman Donovan Kearns finished second with a time of 9:53.13, while sophomore Alex Chin placed third with a time of 9:55.47.
Cincinnati will compete next in a quad meet Friday and Saturday at Keating Aquatics Center.
