CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati women's basketball team hits the road for a BIG EAST meeting Sunday with St. John's. The game, televised live on ESPN2, will tipoff at 5 p.m. The Bearcats are coming off their first conference win of the season, a 54-52 victory over Marquette. St. John's most recently defeated USF 65-59 on the road.
THE SERIES: St. John's leads the all-time series with a 6-1 record. Cincinnati picked up its only win against the Red Storm on Jan. 10, 2010 by a 70-60 score in Fifth Third Arena, marking Head Coach Jamelle Elliott's first BIG EAST victory. The Red Storm won the last meeting in Queens by a 63-34 score.
LAST TIME OUT: Cincinnati was able to snap a 10-game losing streak, earning a 54-52 win over Marquette Feb. 16 at Fifth Third Arena. The Bearcats held the Golden Eagles without a field goal during the final 7:09 of the contest, eventually using a Tiffany Turner layup with less than one second remaining to earn the win. Dayeesha Hollins (Cincinnati, Ohio/ Winton Woods/Michigan) led the Bearcats with 19 points.
SCOUTING THE RED STORM: St. John's most recently defeated South Florida on the road by a 65-59 score. Senior guard Shenneika Smith recorded her fifth double-double of the season as she scored a game-best 19 points. 60 of the Red Storm's 65 points game from starters in the contest.
St. John's ranks sixth nationally in blocked shots, swatting away an average of six per game. Smith leads the team with 2.6 per game. The Red Storm feature a pair of double-digit scorers including the BIG EAST's third-leading scorer, Smith, who averages 17.3 points per game. Smith is also the leader on the boards for the Red Storm, grabbing 7.5 per game.
